skulls ; polaroids

IN THE CHURCH.

I took this polaroid in Leuk, Switzerland. It was in a Roman chuch, a
really weird place. All of the walls were lined with skulls. There was also the
most macabre crucifix I have ever seen. I didn't photograph it because
I found it really disturbing.

I went to a place like that in Rome. It was decorated (quite intricately) with the bones of monks. Gruesome!

if this was less gruesome than the crucifix then i'd hate to see it, very, very scary picture, gosh to think they are real skulls!

Have ever been to the catacombs in Paris. It's basically miles and miles of tunnel lined with skulls and bones arrange geometrically. Only a small section is open to the public, it must be huuuuuge. Originally the bones were just piled in there because the cemetery was full, but after a while they decided to stack the bones in patterns and open it to the public. It was actually more fascinating than creepy, with all the sections marked as to what era the bones belonged to. There are people who make a hobby of sneaking down through one of the many secret exits scattered over Paris into some of the areas that are off limits. Sounds cool, but also terrifying!
